I don't think you're allowed to direct link to them so you'll have to google it but basically, what they do is they buy the custom content from paysites and distribute them for the enjoyment of the entire simming community.
It sounds cruel but you have to take into consideration these points:
1. No one should charge for Custom Content made from free programs provided by Maxis (BodyShop) and other creators (SimPE) especially when, sometimes, they 'steal' meshes from other artists who use Poser.
2. These fees that some paysite owners claim are for bandwith are usually not used for bandwith and one paysite supporter was so bold to admit that the money is needed to support their children and household.
3. Creating custom content is a hobby and should be done for fun. I love Naruto and if I wrote a fanfiction for Naruto would it be right to charge people to read it online? It's basically the same principle with paysites.
4. Most paysites do not offer support service if what you downloaded was not what you expected. Some hairs are not animated properly and have gaps between the head and the hair. If you are paying money for something you expect quality, right? And if it is not what was advertised you want back your money, correct? Paysites do not provide refunds so you are stuck with a faulty download you can't delete because you paid for it.
Also, paysite owners have been known to ban or cancel paying customers' subscriptions before they expired.
Not to alarm you but one paysite owner was so enraged about the pirates putting her items in the booty that they banned a few innocent members in hopes of punishing the pirate as well. This paysite owner even gave other paysite owners the names of the suspects and their Paypal information as she received it on her site. This is illegal!
What the pirates are doing is not illegal because they didn't steal from the sites, they bought the items with their own money then decided to share with everyone, primarily those who could not afford it.
If you bought a DVD and decided to share it with your entire neighbourhood there is nothing wrong with that. This is basically what PMBD does; but if you steal a DVD then charge all your friends to watch it then this is wrong and unfair and basically what paysites are doing.
That's just a poor example though.
5. Some paysite creators are even so devious that they would purposely photoshop the pictures to make them look more appealing when the actual download looks nothing like it.
6. The Sims is the ONLY online gaming community that 'supports' paying for custom content. If you have played any other MMORPS or such then you will know that selling custom content for real money or even selling in-game items under the table could have you banned from the game and shunned from the community.
7. Paysites create a division in the community because most simmers are minors and do not have credit cards of their own. Some countries do not support Paypal. Mine didn't during the Sims 1 and for a time during early Sims 2, and even though I had money I couldn't buy anything. Some people have responsibilities. Bills, children to raise, college tuition fees etc. and after shelling out $30 for each expansion pack do you really need to be paying $10 a month for subscription fees to a paysite or $2.50 per download?
There are many other reasons but you'll find everything you need to know at PMBD. Sorry for talking your ear off.
